The King has demonstrated that he is unable to rule responsibly, having almost bankrupted the nation.

Pros

Cons

  • Pro claim 1

Allowing one man to decide the fate of the nation is irresponsible. Following the thoughts of only one man may leave government vulnerable and weak.

  • Pro claim 2

The King is disconnected from normal French life as he rarely leaves his palace grounds. The leaders of an equal system would not have a palace, so they would have to be responsive to the needs of the people.

  • Con claim 1

France's financial troubles have arisen from an expanding population. These troubles will continue regardless of who leads the country.

  • Con claim 2

The French people's support for the American Revolution has bankrupted France. Giving the people an equal say in government may allow financial mismanagement to continue.
