Selected claim, supporting its parent

Students who are given an advantage in admissions will struggle when they're expected to perform at the level required of an elite university.

Pros

Cons

  • Pro claim 1

The average Black student has a significantly lower GPA than their non-Black peers during the first year of law school.

  • Pro claim 2

If a student has been admitted to a college where their peers are at a higher level of performance, they might lack a real chance for success. This is a known problem with affirmative action called mismatch.

  • Con claim 1, children below

This issue will diminish over time, as the culture of higher education creates a more friendly learning environment for minority students.

  • Con claim 2, children below

Performance levels are not fixed. A student might start below average and catch up with their peers by working harder.
