In certain countries, media outlets are not separate from the government, thus the public receives a perspective which favours the governments handling of the pandemics, which could lead to a misleading idea of what is actually going on.

Governments have the most resources to handle an epidemic and so must be given the medium to inform their populations efficiently. If the government is handling the crisis poorly there exists few alternative bodies which may have the power handle the epidemic.
